Designed by Mr. L.T. Lam, LT DUCK made its debut in 1948, and has been a nostalgic toy beloved by Hong Kongers for over 3 quarters of a century. As we approach the momentous occasion of Mr. Lam's 100th birthday next year, Central Market will present the “Wonder Duck Multiverse” multimedia exhibition at Legacy Hall on the 1st floor, starting from 6 December until 10 January 2024. The exhibition will pay tribute to Mr. Lam's unwavering spirit and remarkable achievements throughout his illustrious career in the toy industry. The exhibition vividly portrays Mr. L.T. Lam as a witness to Hong Kong's industrial development history, spanning periods of conflict, economic boom, reform, and innovation. During the 1950s, Mr. Lam rose to prominence and became one of the pioneering businessmen in Hong Kong who established factories in mainland China during the 1970s, coinciding with the initiation of economic reforms. It was during this time that he gained international recognition by introducing the immensely popular "Transformers" toy figures, which enjoyed widespread acclaim and global exposure. Central Market aims to carry forward his unwavering love for Hong Kong through the exhibition, embodying the essence of cultural heritage. Following Mr. Lam's tribute, Central Market will continue to delve into various legendary figures from Hong Kong, paying homage to those who have made significant contributions to the development of the city over the years.

 

Mr. Lam's contributions extend beyond promoting the evolution of the toy industry; his innovative thinking has also inspired numerous artists to create works based on the theme of the yellow rubber duck. The exhibition also merges the realms of art and technology, integrating artificial intelligence (A.I.)  elements and featuring LT DUCK into various playful artistic creations. A large LED well will also be set up to capture the images of your body gestures.
